FOSTER DETAILS

There are various types of dogs in our care seeking foster homes. Some require attention for medical issues like heartworm treatment or post-surgery recovery, while others benefit from individualized care to overcome shyness in a nurturing environment. Our foster homes play a crucial role in imparting basic obedience, leash manners, and acclimatizing dogs to indoor living, preparing them for eventual adoption. K9 SRT covers all pre-approved medical expenses for our foster dogs.

It is important to acknowledge that our dogs come from diverse backgrounds. While some may be house-trained, others may require assistance in learning. Similarly, some dogs may be adept at leash walking, while others may need guidance as they’ve never experienced leash walking before. Through patience, love, and understanding, our trainers and foster homes facilitate the healing process and prepare our dogs for their new lives.

To begin the fostering journey, please submit a foster application by clicking the link below. The information provided in your application will enable us to match you with a rescue dog suitable for your family and lifestyle. We require references and conduct a home inspection, overseen by one of our K9 SRT volunteers.

If you submitted an application and haven’t heard from one of our volunteers within a week, please don’t hesitate to contact us at {applications@K9SRT.com}.

ADOPTION INFORMATION

If you are considering adopting a Shepherd Dog for the first time, we strongly encourage thorough research to ensure this breed aligns with your lifestyle. Shepherd dogs, including German Shepherds, Belgian Malinois, and other working breeds, have unique needs and may not be suitable for everyone. It’s essential to realistically assess your ability to meet the requirements of these intelligent and active breeds.

At K9 SRT Shepherd Rescue of Texas, we prioritize finding the perfect match between our dogs and prospective families. Unlike a “first come, first served” approach, we aim for lifelong adoptions based on compatibility and suitability. Our adoption process involves filling out an application, undergoing reference checks, and a home inspection conducted by one of our dedicated volunteers.

To begin the adoption process, please complete the adoption application provided in the individual dog descriptions. We kindly request that you submit only one application, even if you are interested in multiple dogs. Submitting multiple applications may delay the processing of your application. Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated.

** Due to increased volume of applications please expect up to 3-4 weeks for processing.

IMPORTANT NOTES

Our rescue dogs are:

  • Heartworm tested
  • Spayed/neutered prior to adoption
  • Up to date with vaccines
  • Microchipped

  • We can assist with transportation arrangements for fosters and adoptions, but we feel that it is essential that the adopting family be willing to meet halfway for transport.
  • For a K9 SRT application to be fully processed, we require two personal references willing to be interviewed, along with one vet reference. A K9 SRT volunteer will also conduct a home visit. In cases where location or health and safety concerns arise, a video home visit may be necessary.
